Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, many believed that if any team could cross the 300-run mark, it would be Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). However, apart from their opening match victory, SRH has now suffered three consecutive defeats, the latest against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens.
Against KKR, SRH¡¯s top order¡ªconsidered a destructive trio of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan¡ªfell cheaply while chasing 201 runs. KKR¡¯s bowlers ensured that no partnership developed, with Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakaravarthy picking up three wickets each.
KKR, previously at the bottom of the points table, secured a massive 80-run victory over SRH. The pitch conditions favored KKR, with the surface assisting their bowling attack.
During SRH¡¯s chase, Heinrich Klaasen (33 off 21), Kamindu Mendis (27 off 20), Nitish Kumar Reddy (19 off 15), and Pat Cummins (14 off 15) were the only batters to reach double digits, while the rest fell for single-digit scores. Vaibhav Arora took 3 wickets for 29 runs, and Varun Chakaravarthy picked up 3 for 22. Andre Russell claimed 2 wickets, while Harshit Rana and Sunil Narine took one each.
SRH¡¯s repeated batting collapses have led netizens to troll the franchise, owned by Kavya Maran. Her reactions from previous matches were quickly turned into memes and circulated on X (formerly known as Twitter).
One user wrote, "Kavya Maran deserves a better team."
Another said, "Vaibhav Arora is KKR¡¯s Impact Player, and he justified it. It's all over for SRH."
A fan pointed out, "This is a major wake-up call for SRH. Opponents now know¡ªget the top three out, and SRH is on the back foot."
Another added, "Looks like fame has gone to the heads of #SRH youngsters. Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Reddy have delivered nothing but disappointing performances so far. Just one win from four matches."
Venkatesh Iyer¡¯s blistering 29-ball 60 propelled KKR to 200, with 66 runs coming in the final four overs. Rinku Singh provided strong support, while Ajinkya Rahane (38 off 27) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (50 off 32) stabilized the innings after early setbacks.
