Jugaad is the essence of Indian existence. Whether it be using bizarre DIYs in daily life or coming up with ingenious solutions to modern problems, desis are great at making things work and are incredibly resourceful. A new video going viral on the Internet proves the point of the Indian jugaadu spirit.
In the clip that has taken Instagram by storm, a?Maruti 800?is seen drifting through the roads of what is assumed to be Punjab?, according to the number plate of the car. However, it was not the car model that shocked people online.
Although seeing a Maruti 800 still working fine on the roads of India is in itself an eyebrow-raiser, it was the car¡¯s monster wheels that stunned the Internet.?The video showcased how some car enthusiasts had modified the Maruti 800 into a?monster truck replica.
The changes in the car were significant, even when all they had done to it was change the wheels. The Instagram page introduced the car and mistakenly mentioned that the Maruti 800 model was an Alto model of the same company. They wrote in the captions, "No one can Beat the Capability of Alto." and even added text on the video that read, "It¡¯s always the Lord Alto."??
While many were distracted by the mistaken model name of the car, some were stunned by the experiment. One user wrote, ¡°The perfect car for any experiment ???.¡± While another noted, ¡°When you realise that this is not an Alto but LORD MARUTI 800. Thats when you realise the person who posted this is less knowledgeable that you. ?¡±
One user described the scene and made people laugh, ¡°Aisa lag raha jaise kisi navjaat shishu ko uski maa ka petikot pehna ke market mein utaar Diya ho.¡±
Nearly 40 years ago, the Maruti 800 was introduced in India. At the time, the then PM Indira Gandhi handed over the keys to the first-selling model of the car to Harpal Singh, who had paid a handsome check of Rs 47,500. The moment went on to become one of the most iconic moments in Indian automotive history.? ?
The 800 was the brainchild of Sanjay Gandhi and a product of Maruti Udyog Limited. It was the first made-in-India car model to get disc brakes, front-wheel drive, floor shift gears, bucket seats, and a plastic moulded dashboard. The car became a big hit with the Indian buyer and went on to become an important part of the Indian experience.
