Kim Sae Ron's family's legal representative has shared new details related to the legal notice that the actress received from Kim Soo Hyun's agency Gold Medalist. According to the representative, the late actress received two letters from her former agency, which Soo Hyun co-owns with his cousin Lee Sa Rang, before her tragic death last month.
On March 17th, the legal representative for Kim Sae Ron's family officially shared their position in the ongoing controversy involving the late actress' ex-boyfriend Kim Soo Hyun and his agency, Gold Medalist. Notably, Kim Sae Ron had also briefly been a part of Gold Medalist after leaving YG Entertainment in 2020. She departed from the agency in 2022 when her contract expired.
The legal rep for the former child actress' family revealed that after receiving a letter from Gold Medalist, the deceased sent a desperate text message to Kim Soo Hyun asking for his help. However, she received no response from him. Instead, the agency sent her another certified letter, which the family rep claims was simply a demand for her to pay off a debt, under the guise of a "breach of trust".?Additionally, the family also revealed that Gold Medalist threatened Kim Sae Ron against contacting Kim Soo Hyun or other agency actors directly or posting photos online.
"It¡¯s hard to fathom how much mental pain she must have suffered after receiving the letter. We don¡¯t understand why they are waiting for contact from the bereaved family to make a public statement. We are considering legal action against Kim Soo Hyun in the future," the legal representative for the family added.
Gold Medalist sent Kim Sae Ron a legal notice in March 2024 demanding repayment of ?700 million (approximately $473,000). This amount was compensation for damages incurred due to Kim Sae Ron's 2022 drunk driving incident, which the agency had initially covered.
However, Kim Sae Ron claimed she was not informed that she would be required to repay the amount. The agency had set a repayment deadline of December 31, 2023, and threatened to take civil and criminal legal action if she failed to meet this obligation.
After receiving the letter from Gold Medalist, Kim Sae Ron was in distress and sent an SOS message to Kim Soo Hyun. Dispatch obtained the message Kim Sae Ron sent to Kim Soo Hyun, which read, ¡°Oppa, this is Sae Ron. I received a certification letter today saying [your company] is suing me. You promised to give me time, and I¡¯m working hard to make a comeback. I said I¡¯d pay you back with my earnings, bit by bit. It¡¯s not that I won¡¯t pay¡ªit¡¯s that I can¡¯t right now. If you suddenly demand ?700 million KRW, I really have no way. Do you really have to go as far as suing me? Please, save me¡ I¡¯m begging you. Give me some time.¡±
Kim Sae Ron's family recently uncovered a second certified letter while sorting through her belongings after her passing. The letter contained a threat: Kim Sae Ron would be held liable for any damages caused to Kim Soo Hyun's 2024 drama Queen of Tears.
This threat seemingly came in response to Kim Sae Ron posting an intimate photo with Kim Soo Hyun on her Instagram account on March 24, 2024, after receiving the legal notice from Gold Medalist. Although she deleted the picture within 30 seconds, some fans had already taken screenshots.
The post coincided with the release of Kim Soo Hyun's tvN drama, also starring Kim Ji Won, and sparked widespread dating rumours between Kim Sae Ron and Kim Soo Hyun.
Kim Sae Ron's mother recently broke her silence on her daughter's controversy with actor Kim Soo Hyun, reiterating the late actress' claims that he dated her when she was a minor. She demanded a public apology from the actor and his agency, Gold Medalist, for allegedly manipulating the media by denying their relationship for three years. Additionally, she demanded the agency acknowledge Kim Sae Ron's contributions as a founding member and apologize for sending her a ?700 million repayment notice.
