Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, still hasn't settled well with fans. The game¡ªwhere RCB secured their first win at Chepauk in 17 years¡ªremains a major talking point.
While MS Dhoni's decision to bat at No. 9 has dominated discussions, another issue has left fans frustrated and enraged¡ªCSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad's post-game remarks.
At the post-match presentation, the CSK skipper stated, "To be honest, I still feel 170 was a par score on this wicket. It wasn't that great to bat on. A bad day in the field cost us really badly. At the end of the day, when you are chasing 170, you bat differently. You have a little bit of time when you go in to bat."?
He added, "When you're chasing 20 runs extra on a wicket where you know it's going to be a little sticky and the ball will stop after getting old, you have to bat slightly differently in the powerplay. Still, I'm happy that we didn't lose by a big margin¡ªat the end, it was just 50 runs."?
Despite the defeat, Gaikwad appeared unfazed, emphasizing the margin of loss. However, his comments have triggered strong backlash from fans on social media.
Cricket fans have expressed their frustration over Gaikwad's statement, with many taking to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their disappointment, questioning, "What exactly is he talking about?"
One fan wrote, "This shows that he has no game sense and is literally the 'pappu' of cricket. How can such a clown be compared to talented youngsters like Gill, Abhishek, etc.?"
Another fan, expressing disappointment in Hindi, wrote, "Kya bol raha hai ye? 50 runs kam hote hain kya? Thodi toh maryada rakhiye." (What is he saying? Are 50 runs a small margin? Have some sense.)
One user bluntly asked, "ARE YOU ALRIGHT, MY BROTHER RUTURAJ?"
Another fan reflected, "CSK should take the captaincy away from Ruturaj Gaikwad and give it to an Aussie. I'm okay with losses, but I can't accept a lack of intent and an 'Oh, we just lost by 50 runs' kind of attitude."
One supporter, although a fan of Gaikwad, stated, "I am a Ruturaj fan, but I can¡¯t accept these words from the captain of the greatest IPL franchise."
