American pop star Katy Perry recently went to space for 10 minutes. And if you ask us, this is going to be one of the funniest pop culture moments of the year, with hilarious memes already taking over the internet.
On April 14, Katy Perry took a quick trip to space as part of Blue Origin’s NS-21 mission. She flew aboard the New Shepard rocket alongside a powerful all-female crew, making it the first all-women spaceflight since 1963.
The trip lasted around a little over 10 minutes, including 4 minutes of weightlessness, taking the six women over 100 kilometers above Earth, just past the line that officially counts as space.
For the mission, she was joined by journalist Gayle King, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez—journalist and partner of Jeff Bezos—who helped organize the mission.
The rocket launched from West Texas, shot past the edge of space (the Kármán line), and safely returned to Earth. During the short but symbolic flight, Perry even sang “What a Wonderful World” while floating in zero gravity. While floating above Earth, the 20-year-old also casually dropped her upcoming Lifetime tour setlist. She walked out of the capsule holding a daisy as a tribute to her daughter and was seen kissing the ground, which was perceived as a symbol of gratitude.
While the mission was technically groundbreaking, social media had a field day with how short the trip was. Some users said it lasted longer than Selena Gomez's social media break, while others said it was shorter than Taylor Swift's All Too Well (10 min version).
One user wrote, "Katy Perry kissing the ground and saying we have to save the earth after taking off on a billionaire's spaceship for a pointless 3-minute trip to space is really reflective of the current climate."
Another user joked, "Katy Perry has landed back on Earth after an 11-minute trip to space, lasting longer than President Donald J. Trump’s sixth pause on tariffs."
A third wrote, "Katy Perry‘s trip to space was faster than my commute to work," while a fourth added, "There are Ethel Cain songs that last longer than Katy Perry’s trip to space."

“This is only second to being a mom,” Katy Perry said after landing back on Earth. She admitted that it was tough leaving her home—and especially her daughter, Daisy—behind, but she chose to trust the universe. “I had to believe that space would take care of me and Earth would take care of my loved ones,” she explained.
The Dark Horse singer added, "To go to space is incredible, and I wanted to model courage, worthiness, and fearlessness."
