The wait is finally over as the NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore successfully return back to Earth on Wednesday (India Time) after nine months of stay in the International Space Station (ISS) in a joint mission conducted by NASA and tech billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX.

The astronauts were stranded at the ISS for over nine months. However, their touchdown has not been a dramatic event, since SpaceX owner Elon Musk had earlier claimed that the previous Joe Biden administration rejected the rescue efforts for "political reasons."

After the mission was completed, Musk took to his X (formerly called Twitter) and shared an appreciation message saying, "Congratulations to the SpaceX and NASA teams for another safe astronaut return! Thank you POTUS for prioritising this mission!"?

The second part of Musk's tweet was a subtle dig at the previous Joe Biden administration, which has been accused by US President Donald Trump of abandoning the NASA astronauts in space.

On the other hand, Musk on Tuesday shared a video on his X in which Williams and Wilmore expressed their gratitude to the SpaceX chief and Trump. "Congratulations to the SpaceX and NASA teams for another safe astronaut return! Thank you POTUS for prioritising this mission!"
