On March 21, the Seoul Central District Court ruled that the group known as NewJeans, who went on to rebrand as NJZ, cannot pursue independent activities and must remain under ADOR's management. Despite the court's decision, Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein performed at ComplexCon Hong Kong under the NJZ name.
However, after the first court hearing on April 3 regarding ADOR's lawsuit over NewJeans' exclusive contract, it now seems the group is beginning to comply with the injunction ruling, as fans noticed significant changes to NJZ's Instagram account.?
On April 4, fans realized that the Instagram account previously known as @njz_official no longer existed. It was soon discovered that the username had been changed to @mhdhh_friends, seemingly using the first initials of each member's name. Not only was the name changed, but all previous posts were deleted.
Not just that, the NJZ account that was reportedly run by the members' parents also changed its username and wiped its feed.?
On X (formerly known as Twitter), fans were quick to notice the sudden shift. One said, "bye bye njz_official, you deserved better and you¡¯ll forever be missed."?
Another wrote, "I miss my NJZ girls... What are they doing? Why are they not active on Instagram anymore?"
One commented, "All posts on the NJZ Instagram account were deleted and the account name was changed immediately after articles were published revealing that some NewJeans members¡¯ mothers opposed participating in the lawsuits against ADOR¡ coincidence?"
While all this happened, reports suggested that one NJZ member's parents may have had differing views on terminating the exclusive contract with ADOR. Fans have been speculating online about which member's family might have disagreed, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing legal saga.
The first hearing in the NewJeans¨CADOR lawsuit was held on April 3. The agency claimed they've paid the group around ?12 billion KRW (~$8.2M USD) since their contract termination attempt in October 2023.
NewJeans¡¯ legal team argued that ADOR became a different entity after Min Hee Jin's removal as CEO, accusing HYBE of retaliation.?
ADOR called their argument inconsistent, pointing to NJZ's ComplexCon performance and new song Pit Stop, despite a court injunction and the group¡¯s announcement of an indefinite hiatus.
The next court hearing is scheduled for June 5, and fans are waiting to see how the legal proceedings will unfold¡ªand what it means for the future of NJZ, or rather, NewJeans.??
