It seems like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Hollywood comeback plans haven't quite panned out as expected. Their new series, POLO, hasn't exactly received the warm welcome they might have been expecting. According to a new report, the pair had put a lot at stake for the docuseries which aimed to reveal the "true depth and spirit of the sport" in anticipation of the polo World Cup, but its failure could mean their departure from Hollywood.
American royal commentator Kinsey Schofield didn't mince words in a recent interview with TalkTV, revealing Harry and Meghan have "alienated themselves" from the public eye, according to Radar Online. "TheyĄ¯ve made so many wrong moves that I donĄ¯t think theyĄ¯re taken seriously anymore," Kinsey added.
Launching a scathing attack at the royals, Schofield called the couple "blissfully unaware" of their own shortcomings. ?"Their?lack of self-awareness?is the only thing they should be receiving trophies for." she quipped.
Schofield also weighed in on the German documentary, The Lost Prince, suggesting it did a great deal of damage to the couple's reputation. ?"It magnified the fact that Harry and Meghan have had many more failures than successes since they chose to step down as senior members of the royal family.Ąą
The Sussexes' multiyear deal with Netflix, reportedly worth up to ?112 million ($150 million), might be in jeopardy due to POLO's underwhelming reception, a source had earlier told OK! Magazine. The deal was signed in 2020 to produce original content, including films, documentaries, and television series, under their production company, Archewell Productions.
While their tell-all series, Harry & Meghan, broke viewership records, emerging as the most popular docuseries of 2022, their subsequent projects have failed to deliver. This could be because instead of focusing on the royal couple, the series put the spotlight on players Adolfo and Poroto Cambiaso, Timmy Dutta, and Nacho Figueras, and the technicalities of Polo.
With Christmas movies taking over the streaming giant as viewers get into the holiday spirit, POLO is unlikely to gain momentum. However, Harry and Meghan still have the latter's upcoming cooking show to pin their hopes on.
