Two teams ¡ª sitting at opposite ends of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 points table ¡ª are set to face off at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will host Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but unlike last season where a win could have secured a Playoff spot for either side, the stakes are different this time. A win for RCB could nearly seal their qualification, while CSK have already become the first team to be knocked out of the Top 4 race.
Despite their elimination, the MS Dhoni-led side could still play spoilsport on Saturday. CSK may no longer be in contention, but they remain dangerous and could derail RCB's playoff hopes. The hosts, meanwhile, come into the clash riding a three-match winning streak and currently sit in the top half of the table. Another victory ¡ª their eighth of the season ¡ª would take them one step closer to sealing a Playoff spot.
The IPL match on May 3 could be interrupted or even canceled due to rain. Bengaluru has had bad weather recently, with thunderstorms in the evenings and at night. The match is set to start at 7:30 PM IST, which is around the same time it has been raining in the city over the past few days.
According to BBC Weather, showers are expected to begin around 3:30 PM IST on May 3 and continue until 9:30 PM IST. While the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is equipped with one of the best drainage systems in the world, but continuous rain for nearly six hours could make it challenging to prepare the ground for play in a short span of time.
However, if conditions improve late in the evening, the game might begin around 11:00 or 11:30 PM IST. but this will remain speculative, and the actual situation will only become clear on match day.
RCB trail CSK with a head-to-head record of 12 wins to CSK's 21. While the overall history favours Chennai, RCB have had the upper hand recently, winning the last two meetings ¡ª including a nail-biting contest at this very venue a year ago.
