The novel coronavirus pandemic has taken over each and every person's life and the entire world is suffering. To make matters worse, it has come to light that there has been an increase in mental health cases in our country. According to a survey carried out by the Indian Psychiatry Society, there has been a 20% rise in the number of cases of mental illness.
According to the survey, at least one out of every five Indians is suffering from mental illness.
Unfortunately, this global disease has taken over the world in more than one way and people's mental health is getting severely affected.?
20% is a significant spike in the mental health numbers and while we are trying to keep things together, we should not avoid any other signs of trouble. The human brain is complex and one can only wonder how differently this pandemic is going to affect all of us.
According to the survey, there has been an increase of 15 to 20 per cent in patients suffering from mental illness and all of this has happened in just one week and the novel pandemic COVID-19 is known to be the reason behind it.
Due to the deadly virus spreading all across the world, countries have gone on nationwide lock downs which is definitely adding to the stress. People are fearing being unable to sustain their livelihoods while some have already lost it. This could be a definitive reason behind the spike in the number of mental health cases since a person's life depends on it.
Back in January, the Indian Council of Medical Research had also released data showing, that 1 out 5 Indians suffers from mental health issues.
