Australia seems to be another country that has managed to contain coronavirus. Reportedly, the country recorded zero new locally-acquired cases of coronavirus yesterday, for the first time.?
The country reported just two new new cases in NSW, both of which were acquired overseas.
The health Minister, Greg Hunt, said that both individuals are in hotel quarantine in Sydney.?
According to an?ABC report,?more than 80%of new coronavirus cases in Australia this week were acquired overseas. This week, the country saw only seven cases of local transmission - six in Victoria, and one in Queensland.
Given the high number of cases acquired overseas, the Federal Government might not reopen its borders anytime soon.?
Travellers returning to Australia are still required to self-isolate for two weeks on arrival.
NSW, was the country¡¯s worst-affected state but it is now looking to further ease restrictions after recording only 62 new cases in the past week.
¡°Given New South Wales is doing better than we¡¯d expected at this stage, that we are looking to further ease restrictions,¡± NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, reportedly said.?
Ms Berejiklian has asked other states and territories to ease border lockdowns so interstate travel and business can resume.?
However, given that thousands of people gathered for Black Lives Matter rallies across the country last weekend, health authorities are on an alert.?
¡°We don¡¯t know if anyone in those mass gatherings were infected or infectious, and so it is a wait-and-see approach,¡± Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Paul Kelly, said.?
The news of zero locally transmitted cases from Australia comes as New Zealand, declared itself coronavirus-free.?
