Workers for the Bajrang Dal beat up numerous young individuals of a particular religion late on Tuesday night in Ahmedabad, allegedly for attempting to attend a "Garba" venue.
Videos shared on social media show some young people getting beaten up while being questioned about their religious affiliations by the saffron brigade.?
One of the videos shows a person being stripped, punched and kicked amid the crowded street by a dozen men wearing saffron scarves.
The man introduces himself as Salman Shaikh and begs to be let go, vowing never to return. The cops claimed to be verifying the authenticity of the videos.
"We are aware of the videos and are verifying those. No case has been filed since no one has come forward to complain," B U Jadeja, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 7, Ahmedabad, told the Deccan herald.?
Beginning on Monday, the nine-day Navratri holiday began. As in previous years, Bajrang Dal members have instructed non-Hindus to avoid "Garba" venues.
President of north Gujarat, Bajrang Dal, confirmed to the incident and told DH, "Our workers spotted these people from R K Party Plot on Sindhu Bhavan Road. While applying 'tilak' to everyone entering the 'Garba' venue, we spotted four Muslims. I heard that there were some fights."?
Nirav Patel, the owner of R K Party Plot, told DH that he was unaware of the situation because he had merely rented his plot to Sky Events, an event management company.
