Remember Zomato's controversial 'Chief of Staff' job listing that had everyone talking? The one where founder Deepinder Goyal expected candidates to shell out Rs 20 lakh, work without pay for a year, and promised "10x the learning of a management course"? After facing major backlash and eventually backtracking, Goyal has now shared an update!30 people have been hired, they're "being handsomely compensated," and, no, nobody had to pay to work with them!
Around 2.5 months after the hiring post went viral in November, Deepinder Goyal has shared an update, revealing that out of an overwhelming 18,000+ applications, Zomato has carefully chosen 30 outstanding candidates, with 18 already onboarded across Zomato and its group companies like Blinkit.
"They're being handsomely compensated for the value they bring, and nobody paid anything to work with us," Goyal clarified, addressing the backlash over the initial job listing.
So, who made the cut? According to Goyal, the hires include startup founders, engineers who rewrote entire tech stacks over a weekend, operators who scaled businesses out of chaos, and even brilliant young minds fresh out of college!all individuals who, he believes, "will lead us into the future."
What truly set them apart, he emphasised, was their long-term mindset. "They weren't optimizing for short-term outcomes but for compounding impact!the most misunderstood mathematical miracle," Goyal noted, highlighting his belief that finding such people is rare.
Among the new hires, four now work directly with Goyal himself, with two holding Chief of Staff roles. But the hiring isn't over yet.?
"With 18,000+ applications, we're still carefully sifting through this amazing talent pool," he shared, adding that this process isn't just about filling roles!it's a long-term investment in people who will build the future with us.
Well, we may never know Goyal's true intentions behind that "no salary for a year" job post, but one thing's clear!he's definitely working overtime to win back public favour!
