You know how they say that visiting some places will take your breath away? Well, Delhi NCR will literally do that to you. A day after Diwali, capital of the country woke up to smoke filled skies with AQI breaching the mark of 999 in many regions.
5 days later, not much seems to have improved. AQI in Punjabi Bagh and Narela areas reportedly breached 999 mark at 6 AM on Sunday. According to the government, the share of stubble burning in Delhi¡¯s pollution reduced from 44% to 17% on Saturday.?
?
The construction activities in the city have been banned till November 5 and the odd even scheme starts on November 4. Despite all these measures there seems to be no effect on the air quality.?
On Sunday 7:00 am, the AQI in Rohini was 967, in Bawana it was 999, 947 in Pusa, 930 near Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and 943 in ITI Pusa, according to the government air quality monitor.?
?
The weather department has predicted rains in the coming days, that might provide a relief to Delhi, but as of now, we are all breathing poison.?
The blanket of pollution that has covered the city does not allow a vision of more than 200 meters?and even though not all masks block all pollutants, it is folly to be stepping out without one.
Let us hope that the odd-even scheme and rains in the coming days bring some respite to the city.
