But did you know that Delhi has a local rail as well? Yes, you read that correctly. Recently, a Twitter user spread the news on social media, and everyone was taken aback.? Have a look at her tweet that is now going viral.?
It started when Twitter user ¡®Tanvi¡¯ posted an image of the train as she wrote, ¡°For a second I thought I was back in Mumbai."?
Many people speculated and asked if this was actually a local train line. To this, Tanvi responded by saying, ¡°It¡¯s NR - Northern Railway, goes to Faridabad and nearby NCR regions I suppose." One Twitter user retweeted the image, saying, ¡°Haan delhi mei bhi local trains hai if you guys didn¡¯t know."?
The image is essentially that of the Delhi Suburban Railway.
For those who are unfamiliar, Northern Railway operates a suburban rail service for the National Capital Region (NCR). It includes Delhi as well as the neighbouring districts of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Sonipat. It also includes other parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The tweet perplexed a lot of Delhi residents who do not have any idea about the local train's existence.?
A woman wrote, "people from mumbai when they realise other cities like hyderabad, delhi, kolkata, etc. have local trains."

If you didn't already know, the history of local trains in Delhi dates back to the late 19th century. The establishment of the Delhi Junction railway station in 1864 marked the introduction of railway services in the city.?
Over time, the demand for a local train network grew as the population increased and commuting within the city became more challenging.The first local train service in Delhi, known as the Delhi Ring Railway, was inaugurated in 1975.?
It was primarily designed as a circular rail route, connecting various parts of the city. The Delhi Ring Railway initially operated with diesel locomotives and had 21 stations.
