As India marks the 8th anniversary of demonetisation, let's revisit the man who suggested this idea note ban to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His name is Anil Bokil. Here's everything about Anil Bokil and his idea that changed the money game in India:
Anil Bokil is a mechanical engineer and also the founder of Pune-based think tank Arthakranti.
Born and brought up in India's Maharashtra, Anil's career had little to do with politics or even finance. Though he started his career in engineering, he later got shifted into his economic vision for his country.
Over years, Anil got a strong belief in the importance of cashless transactions and the need to change black money in India.
Anil is the founder of ArthaKranti,?which is a think tank that focuses on reshaping the country's economic policies.
The think tank basically believes in radical financial reforms that, according to Anil, would reduce tax evasion and battle corruption.
As per media reports, Anil managed to meet Narendra Modi years ago when he was the chief minister of Gujarat. During the meeting, Anil and his team proposed their ideas to reform the country's economic policies, which also included demonetisation.
Modi was impressed with the idea of demonetisation of high-denomination currency notes, which was later implemented in 2016 when he started his tenure as Prime Minister of India.
As we revisit demonetisation after eight years, Anil Bokil continues to work with his think tank, backing economic reforms aimed at reducing corruption in the country.
