When someone mentions pyramids, the first country that comes to mind is usually Egypt. The country is renowned for its stunning pyramids. But are you aware that the country with the most pyramids is not Egypt? Yes, you read it correctly.
Sudan has the most number of pyramids in the world. It has approximately 220-240 scattered huge structures over its wide desert area. Sudan's pyramids are distributed throughout multiple regions. They have their own distinct architectural style and historical significance.
The Nubian Meroe pyramids, which are much smaller but equally spectacular as the more famous Egyptian pyramids, may be found on Sudan's east bank of the Nile River. From 2500 BCE to 300 CE, the ancient Kushite kingdoms created the Nubian pyramids. They have steeper sides and sharper angles.
The most well-known of these is the Meroe Necropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Over 200 pyramids serve as silent sentinels there.?
These pyramids served as royal tombs, similar to those found in Egypt, and provided insight into the lives and ceremonies of the Kushite monarchs.?
However, despite having the most pyramids, Sudanese pyramids are significantly less well-known than Egyptian ones.
