Quick thinking during panic makes for some of the most daring acts of all. Recently, a father in New Jersey had to potentially endanger his son¡¯s and his own life to escape a fire.?
A fast-moving fire erupted in a New Jersey residential building on Monday at 8:15 Eastern time, forcing the father to toss his 3-year-old toddler son out of their second-floor apartment so that firefighters could catch him.?
The blaze broke out on the second and third floors of the South Ridge Wood Apartment Complex sending rescuers scrambling to the building. The whole incident was recorded on the body camera worn by one of the firefighters.?
The rescue team urged the father to ¡°pass the baby¡± and a few seconds later, driven by the survival instinct, he complied. While the toddler was relatively easy to catch from that height, the firefighters also intercepted the father¡¯s own freefall.
The fire has been categorised as a three-alarm fire, which is a dispatch call for a third-degree fire. Such a blaze is considered a large fire that takes a considerable amount to put out and involves a larger team.
About 50 people were displaced by the fire, according to Monmouth junction fire Chief Scott Smith."We were faced with extremely heavy fire conditions immediately on arrival, along with reports of people still inside,¡± he said.?
¡°Fortunately, all of the occupants were able to escape the fire. If this fire was earlier in the morning when people may have still been asleep, the outcome could have easily been tragic.¡±??
