All of us have scoffed at scenes from films when the characters throw a coin in the well/fountain and make a wish because we all know it's a load of BS. Well, turns out it happens in real life too and the characters are actually world leaders.
Do you know the famous Trevi Fountain in Italy's Rome? Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with several other world leaders, were at the?largest Baroque fountain in the Italian city on Sunday for the G20 summit.
Loved by tourists from all over the world, the fountain is a sight of beauty.?
"Joined the @g20org leaders at Rome''s beautiful Trevi Fountain," Prime Minister Modi tweeted a group photo with the others.?
"#G20 Heads of Delegation start the 2nd day of the #G20RomeSummit with a walk to a symbolic place of the city: Trevi Fountain, one of the world's most beautiful fountains and famous for the traditional coin toss. #G20Italy," G20 Italy tweeted on Sunday.
The group of leaders threw coins from over their shoulders into the fountain, showed a video released by the G20 Italy. What's the myth? It is believed that if you throw a coin over your shoulder into the fountain water, you will surely return to Rome.
One can say that the world leaders were just carrying out a tradition but do we need this right now, or affirmative action when it comes to the climate crisis? Our bet is on the latter.
Needless to say that this shenanigans backfired and people are not happy.
The Indian Prime Minister also attended a session on Sustainable Development and an event on "Supply Chain Resilience".
The Trevi fountain is 26.3 metres high and 49.15 metres wide. It is the largest Baroque fountain in the city, and of course, one of the most famous ones in the world.?
