Most Indian banks¡¯ functions are regulated by the Reserve Bank of India. In fact, banking schedules and holidays are also governed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regulations. Public sector banks and private sector banks both are not working on Sunday and second and fourth Saturdays of every month.
Bank holidays in India come with a variety of flavours -- it's a mix of mandated holidays by the banking sector, plus a whole set of festive and commemorative holidays authorised by various states. Bank holidays in January 2022 are listed by the State Government, Central Government, and Union Territories under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. The regular holidays applicable to the institutions in every state cover banks too. Bank holidays fall under four categories namely weekend holidays on Sundays, monthly holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays, national holidays and regional holidays. While the first three types of holidays are applicable throughout India, the regional holidays differ from state to state.

The bank will remain shut on January 4 in Sikkim on the occasion of Losoong celebration. The Losoong festival is celebrated on the occasion of the end of the harvest season and the end of the tenth month of the Tibetan Year in the rural Sikkim. In this festival, the Chaam dances are performed at the Tsu-La-Khang monastery, Phodong monastery and Rumtek monastery.
On January 8 banks will remain closed across the country because of the second Saturday.

National Youth Day or Swami Vivekananda Jayanti is observed every year on January 12 across the country. On this day many states banks will remain closed.
On January 14, banks will remain closed in several states on account of Magh Bihu, Makar Sankranti and Tusu Puja.
On January 15, banks will remain closed in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on account of Pongal and Tiruvalluvar Day.
On January 16, banks will observe weekend holidays across the country.
On January 22 banks will remain closed across the country because of the fourth Saturday.
On January 23, banks will observe weekend holidays across the country.
Statehood Day is observed every year on January 25 in Himachal Pradesh. The day is a regional public holiday in the state.
Banks will remain closed in all cities except Agartala, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Guwahati, Imphal, Jaipur, Kochi and Srinagar.
On January 30, banks will observe weekend holidays across the country.
Me-Dam-Me-Phi is observed on January 31 in Assam. The day is a regional public holiday in the state.
