Yamagarni village in the Nipani taluk of Belagavi district recently experienced an unusual sight. A delighted gathering paraded a black independent dog decorated with garlands and enjoyed a feast in its celebration.
The people consider the reappearance of the lost dog a miracle.?
The dog, affectionately known as Maharaj, was lost among the crowd in the pilgrimage town of Pandharpur in South Maharashtra, but found its way back to the village of Belagavi in North Karnataka, covering nearly 250 kilometres on its own.

In the last week of June, Maharaj accompanied its owner Kamalesh Kumbhar on his yearly 'Wari padayatra' excursion to Pandharpur.
Kumbhar, a 'Warkari', stated that he travels to Pandharpur every year on Ashadha and Kartiki Ekadashi.He mentioned that the dog was also with him this time."Maharaj has always enjoyed listening to bhajans. Kumbhar told PTI that he once accompanied me on another padayatra tour to the Jyotiba temple near Mahabaleshwar.
For approximately 250 kilometres, the dog followed the master, who walked with a group of pals while reciting bhajans.After the darshan at Vithoba temple, Kumbhar stated that he saw the dog was missing. When he went seeking for him, he reported that someone nearby informed him that the dog had left with another group.?

The man?searched for him everywhere but could not find him, so giving up, he returned home.?
To his surprise the following day,?Maharaj was standing there in front of his house, wagging his tail as if nothing had happened. "He looked well-fed and perfectly fine," the man said.?
The locals greeted Maharaj's return with a feast. "It's a miracle the dog was able to make its way home despite being almost 250 kilometers away. We believe it was Lord Panduranga who guided him.
