He recounted his experience of a Zoom interview that lasted an unexpected 1.5 hours, featuring a panel that included a Senior Project Manager (SPM), a Senior Developer, and the Chief of Staff.?
This was the second of three interviews, and he felt confident after breezing through the initial technical questions and engaging in lively discussions about methodologies and company processes.
As the Chief of Staff suggested scheduling the third interview, the candidate replied, "I'm available at the CTO's convenience."
Just then, he noticed an email notification pop up on his screenĄĒa rejection email from the very company he was interviewing with.?
With a mix of confusion and disbelief, he shared, "I'm not sure it's going to work for the rest of the hiring team. Someone just rejected me sight unseen."
The panel members froze, looking like 'deer caught in headlights', until the Senior Developer finally exclaimed, "What?"?
The candidate explained, "I just got an email from your Workday instance. I've been rejected from this role so you can pursue other candidates that more closely align."
The Senior Developer, clearly taken aback, asked, "What other candidates are left? I thought he was the last?"
This prompted an awkward silence as the SPM and Chief of Staff frantically typed away, trying to make sense of the situation.
Breaking the tension, the Chief of Staff took a deep breath and stated, "I'm not sure what is going on. I'll get back to you by the end of the week. Thanks."
And just like that, the candidate was abruptly kicked out of the Zoom call, left pondering how things could have gone so wrong.
Reflecting on the experience, he said, "I'm thinking someone's friend just got hired, and no one told the Chief of Staff, or the role got closed due to budget and again, no one told the Chief of Staff. Either wayĄ hilariously unfortunate."
