Determined to give Donna a better life, George managed the paperwork and worked with officials in India and the United States to bring her to America. She will soon be settling in Maine with her new family.
The Dogist, an Instagram account known for street photographer Elias Weiss Friedman's beautiful dog photos, first posted the uplifting tale.
"While travelling in India, George visited a friend he'd met through Instagram who owns a nonprofit rescue, @pawmisetopaws. After falling for one of the rescue's dogs, Donna, George worked with @calebsopus and @straydogsupport to arrange for her travel back to the States. Thanks to George, his support team, and the vet that saved her life, Donna now spends her days as a happy tripod with her new pack in Maine!" the post's caption read.
In a video interview with Friedman, George described Donna's journey: "Donna was hit by a train and found on the street, suffering. They healed her limb, and she unexpectedly gave birth to six puppies, all of which were adopted. She lived completely on the streets, most likely in a slum area. I reside on the coast of Maine and have a spacious yard. I also have other rescue pets. One is from Puerto Rico, the other from Alabama," he explained.
