Sonam Wangchuk, the man who inspired the character of Phunsukh Wangdu in 3 Idiots, released a YouTube video recently in which he appealed to all Indian citizens to boycott all Chinese products - from software to hardware to clothing.?
He said that apps like TikTok can be deleted within a week so that China does not benefit from India amid growing tensions at the border, and hardware - like phones and other devices - can be flushed out within a year, eventually.?
Paying heed to Wangchuk¡¯s advice,?Milind Soman took to Twitter to announce that he is no longer a TikTok user. Sharing a short clip of Wangchuk¡¯s original video, Soman tweeted, ¡®Am no longer on tiktok.¡¯ with the hashtag ¡®#BoycottChineseProducts¡¯.?
Wangchuk's YouTube video is titled, China Ko Jawaab Sena Degi Bullet Se, Naagrik Dengey Wallet Se. He starts the video by talking about the increasing tensions at the border between India and China, and stresses on the responsibility of Indian citizens to boycott made-in-China products.?
Among other things, he mentioned in the video that China makes almost Rs 5 lakh crores from its business with India every year, and this money might be used by the Chinese to invest in their army which is fighting against ours. He argues that we are indirectly sending money to the Chinese army, hence we should boycott Chinese products and apps and stop them from profiting.
Milind Soman¡¯s fans meanwhile hailed his decision to quit the app:
This just might be a beginning of influential people giving up on apps like TikTok.?
