It has been alleged that a 400-year-old painting depicts a young kid wearing a pair of Nike trainers. Here's what it looks like.
The National Gallery in London houses a portrait by Dutch painter Ferdinand Bol of an eight-year-old kid holding a cup.?
However, amused travellers pointed out that the child appeared to be wearing Nike trainers.Fiona Foskett, 57, noticed the abnormality when visiting the London museum with her daughter Holly, 23.Mrs Foskett, of the Isle of Wight, said the boy's trainers "really stood out" and quipped that he was a "time traveller."
'I was gazing at the picture and the trainers really stood out to me,' she told The Sun. 'Hold on, is he wearing a pair of Nike trainers?' I asked my daughter.'We couldn't stop laughing. He's clearly a fashionable young man.
'Given his age, he must have owned the first pair of Nike footwear ever created. Is he really a time traveller?'The boy in the image is claimed to be Frederick Sluysken, the son of a wealthy wine merchant and the second cousin of artist Bol's wife.
'We are happy that this image has proven such a favourite with our visitors,' said a representative for the National Gallery.
Nike, originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS), was founded on January 25, 1964. It was established by Bill Bowerman, a track and field coach, and Phil Knight, a middle-distance runner, and his former student, at the University of Oregon.?
The company's primary objective was to import and distribute high-quality athletic footwear from a Japanese brand called Onitsuka Tiger (now known as ASICS).
They began by selling shoes out of the trunk of Knight's car at various track meets and athletic events. As the business grew, BRS opened its first retail store in Santa Monica, California, in 1966.
