On several occasions in past, Pope Francis has expressed concerns about the replacement of vehicles that use highly polluting fossil fuels. Now, addressing his environmental concerns,?California-based electric car startup Fisker has prosed the Supreme Pontiff with a new electric vehicle that he can use while travelling during the Holy Sea.??
The electric car will be called Popemobile and be manufactured by Los Angeles-based Fisker Inc. According to a Reuters report, the car will have a solar roof and carpets made of recycled plastic bottles from the ocean.?
The company responsible for making the car will convert its all-electric Ocean sport utility vehicle for use by the pope. The car will have a retractable glass cupola and sustainable interior materials.?
The co-founders of the company, Henrik Fisker, and Dr. Geeta Gupta-Fisker, met the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Vatican city recently.
"I got inspired reading that Pope Francis is very considerate about the environment and the impact of climate change for future generations," Fisker was quoted as saying by Reuters.
Pope Francis saw the first look at his new car during the private meeting with the founders of Fisker on May 20.?
Henrik explained that the creation of the car was inspired by the pope's consciousness about climate issues.
¡°Technology based on the use of highly polluting fossil fuels needs to be replaced without delay. There is reason to hope that humanity at the dawn of the 21st century will be remembered for having generously shouldered its grave responsibilities,¡± the Pope had tweeted on May 19.
Henrik shared a picture of the Pope looking at framed?photos of electric cars during the meeting.
¡°It was an honour to have a private audience with Pope Francis @Pontifex. He is so conscious about our responsibility towards the environment & for our generations to come! Looking forward to make the 1st ALL electric Popemobile. #Fisker #love #EVs #PopeFrancis #vatican¡± he wrote.
