A village in Spain that was underwater and was submerged by a dam for 30 years has now gotten visible after?a drought emptied a reservoir.
This Spanish village named Aceredo has been underwater since 1992. However, after emerging back, it has attracted many tourists. Locals also got quite emotional after the sight of old establishments were visible in dilapidated shapes.
Pensioner Maximino Perez Romero talked to The Sun about how he felt after the village emerged again saying it felt like watching a movie.?
He said: "I have a feeling of sadness. My feeling is that this is what will happen over the years due to drought and all that, with climate change."
According to a report by Reuters, Aceredo was flooded purposefully in 1992 to create the Alto Lindoso reservoir.?The ruins emerged after a spell of extremely dry weather nearly emptied a dam on the Spanish-Portuguese border. At present, the reservoir is only at 15% capacity.
People who have visited the area to see the ruins have found collapsed roofs, bricks, and wooden debris that were once in good condition.? There were also several crates of empty beer bottles that were stacked by what used to be a cafe in the ghost town. Among other things, locals also spotted a semi-destroyed old car was rusting away by a stone wall.
"The whole place used to be all vineyards, orange trees. It was all green. It was beautiful," said a 72-year-old man who used to visit the bar with his friends before 1992.??
Experts say that climate change is the reason for such heavy droughts.?
