In a jaw-dropping moment, a video caught the demolition of 15 high rises in China. The video that is going viral is said to be from Kunming city where the buildings were demolished using 4.6 tonnes of explosives stored at 85,000 different blasting points around the building. The whole process took just 46 seconds.
According to Xinhua news agency, the housing project was initiated in 2011 but faced many hurdles over the years and was abandoned for over eight years after the project could not be completed despite changing a few builders.?
Eventually, the government had to bring in which decided to take the drastic step and ordered to demolish the half-built structures after building basements were submerged in rainwater making the structures weak and dangerous for nearby areas.
In order to ensure the demolition is carried out successfully and no damage is caused to people, authorities ordered all nearby residents and commercial establishments to vacate and move to safer places.
?More than 2,000 support personnel were also dispatched to set up eight emergency rescue teams, including on-site fire rescue teams, flood control emergency teams, and urban management logistics teams, Kunming Daily reported.
Taiwan News reported these buildings were part of the unfinished Liyang Star City Phase II project and were worth 1 billion Chinese yuan (US$154 million)?
