Dog lovers know no bounds when it comes to their furry friends. An American woman did something groundbreaking for her late pet, she made the world's largest GPS drawing by bicycle, measuring 4,707 kilometres.?
Kristy Bellmer cycled throughout Europe to break the solo record set by David Schweikert of the United States (US), travelling three times the distance in her tribute to Slinky.?
Kristy told Guinness World Records that she had to devise a unique approach to make the GPS art resemble a dog. "I wanted to start in Amsterdam because it is cycling heaven! I also wanted to go to Paris and Brussels, and I had friends I wanted to visit in Switzerland and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany," the cyclist explained.?
The cyclist began her two-month journey in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on May 1, the birthday of her deceased pet. The route was a closed loop that took her through Germany, Switzerland, France, and Belgium before returning her to the starting point.? ?
"I ended up making the butt bigger to get to my friend in Garmisch, and the foot longer for my friends in Switzerland, and I made the tail longer so I'd go into Czechia too - I thought that was cool."?
Kristy tented along the route, surviving some of Europe's wettest April on record. Her tent was soaked on a couple of occasions, and her bicycle, nicknamed Bikecephalus (a pun on Bucephalus, the name of Alexa the Great's horse), was damaged.?
The rider stated the Alps between Czechia and Germany were a "surprise" because of the damp weather and the rough terrain.?
"The hills went on and on until around Frankfurt," Kristy recalled. "I had thought I was done with hills once I was out of the Alps! I wasn't prepared mentally."
