People establish acquaintances and bond with strangers when they travel to distant nations, regardless of the language barrier.
Whether it's striking up a conversation at a?caf¨¦, seeking directions, or participating in group activities, the shared context of being in an unfamiliar place encourages people to connect, share stories, and build relationships that might last beyond the duration of their travels.
A man from India took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a bond he developed with a caf¨¦ owner in?Vietnam. Suji stated that when he visited Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, in 2022, he went to a caf¨¦ for beverages.
There was a linguistic barrier between him and the caf¨¦ owner because he did not know Vietnamese and the proprietor did not speak?English. So they communicated via Google Translate. Surprisingly, he stated that the owner invited him and his friend to a dinner with his family.
"For me, this symbolises true hospitality. I stopped by a cafe in Hanoi in 2022 for a drink. Despite the language barrier (I do not speak Vietnamese, and the proprietor does not speak English), we spoke via Google Translate. Surprisingly, the owner issued an offer for the two of us to join his family for supper!" he wrote.
"Despite the language barrier, I found Vietnamese people to be some of the friendliest in Southeast Asia," a social media user said. "Been there; done that! "I was amazed at how even some street hawkers were openly using smart phone apps to translate the bargaining negotiations," remarked another. Check out the viral post here.
