A day after India's spectacular win against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy 2025, when the Pakistani fans hardly got a chance to get over their loss, a recent video from the February 22 Australia vs. England match that took place in Lahore has gone viral.
In the viral video, a cricket fan waving the Indian flag in the stands of the stadium was quickly removed by the security team.?
The incident captured on video is widely circulated across social media platforms, which shows Pakistani officials dragging the individual away and snatching the flag from his hands.?
According to a Zee News report, the man was detained and was allegedly beaten by security personnel at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium for waving an Indian flag during a match.?
While it is not clear yet as to when this happened this is not the only incident that grabbed attention on social media. Apart from this incident, at the beginning of the match, during the national anthem ceremony, the Indian national anthem was played for a couple of seconds.?
After this incident, the Pakistan Cricket Board was left angry-faced; they also asked for an explanation for the same from the ICC. However, the latter admitted the mistake and said that it was a technical glitch, but the answer did not satisfy the board.
According to an earlier report, ahead of the Champions Trophy, the flags of seven teams, including that of Pakistan, were seen at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, but the Indian flag was missing from it.
When the event started, fans noticed that the Indian tricolour was missing. At the same time, the flags of all seven participating teams of the Champions Trophy were hoisted. One of the videos from the stadium went viral; see here:
As soon as the video surfaced on the internet, it sparked outrage on social media; however, there is no concrete evidence in the same, and Pakistani officials are yet to issue an official statement on the same.?
Users on various platforms of social media took up the incident and debated whether the security personnel's actions were justified or if they reflected deep-rooted hostility toward Indian symbolism in Pakistan.
One user wrote that some people do not want a reconciliation: "The people of both the countries want reconciliation but some people do not want it."
While another wrote, "Just imagine India doing that.. nearly 10% of the stadium would be arrested"
"Patriotism shouldn¡¯t be a crime, but intolerance always is."
"More support to that guy ?"
