It has been nearly 14 years since Ra.One tried to rewire Bollywood's sci-fi game, but thanks to Kareena Kapoor Khan and a meme-loving internet, the film is suddenly so 2025 again.
Over the weekend, the ever-glam Kareena set Dubai on fire at a jewellery brand¡¯s event when she broke into the iconic hook step of Chammak Challo. Dressed like a dream and moving like she had just stepped off the 2011 set, Bebo¡¯s stage moment instantly went viral. Fans were living for her energy, her timeless glow, and of course¡ªthe nostalgia hit that Chammak Challo always delivers.
¡°She is ageing backwards,¡± one fan gushed. Another declared, ¡°It is like she just filmed it yesterday.¡± The internet, naturally, erupted with love.?But then, plot twist, the meme brigade stepped in.
While everyone was busy fangirling over Kareena¡¯s moves, OG Ra.One fans were like¡ª¡°Wait a minute. Technically, wasn¡¯t that Arjun Rampal dancing in the movie?¡± Yes, you read that right. In the film, it is not actually Kareena¡¯s character doing the moves during Chammak Challo, but Ra.One¡ªaka Arjun Rampal¡ªdisguised as her.
And just like that, the Arjun Rampal Chammak Challo meme came roaring back from the depths of Bollywood Twitter. ¡°15 years later and Arjun Rampal¡¯s dance moves still slay,¡± one user joked. Another tweeted, ¡°Never forget: Arjun Rampal was the real Chammak Challo.¡±
If you are a Gen Z¡¯er wondering what the hell is going on, here is the tea. Ra.One, directed by Anubhav Sinha, was India¡¯s big-budget answer to Hollywood¡¯s superhero craze. With Shah Rukh Khan playing the heroic G.One and Arjun Rampal as the shape-shifting villain Ra.One, the movie threw in everything¡ªfrom visual effects to dance bangers. And while the film itself had a mixed reception, the Chammak Challo track (featuring vocals by Akon, no less) was a cultural moment.
Meanwhile, Kareena, who was last seen in Singham Again alongside a galaxy of stars, remains Bollywood¡¯s evergreen queen¡ªand possibly the only person who can unintentionally revive both a viral song and a meme in under 30 seconds.
