The refreshing pairing of IU and Park Bo Gum is coming to you this spring. Netflix has dropped the first-look poster and teaser of the upcoming drama, which promises classic romance blossoming across four seasons on the picturesque Jeju Island. The drama is set to premiere on March 7.
The teaser of When Life Gives You Tangerines is poised to be a heartwarming tale of romance that unfolds against the picturesque backdrop of Jeju Island. The story follows the blossoming love between IU and Park Bo Gum's characters as they navigate the changing seasons, from the blossoming flowers of spring to the cozy warmth of winter.
Set in the 1950s, the drama has been penned by Lim Sang Choon, who is also behind the hit show When the Camellia Blooms and Fight For My Way, and directed by Wim Won Suk, known for his work on Misaeng: Incomplete Life and My Mister.
The teaser for the show introduces us to Ae Sun (IU), the "remarkable rebel," and Gwan Sik (Park Bo Gum), nicknamed "unyielding iron," as they hold hands in a beautiful canola flower field dressed in school uniforms and track suits. As the teaser progresses, it gives us a glimpse into their relationship, showcasing the ups and downs of their romance, from sweet and tender moments to intense and dramatic arguments.
The official description of the drama reads: "Ae Sun is rebellious but gets nervous every time she rebels. She isn’t well off but is always shining and full of positivity. She dreams of becoming a poet, although she is unable to attend school, and she is a bold character who doesn’t hide any emotions.
?Gwan Shik is an extremely diligent and quiet character. Romance isn’t a strength for him, however, and he doesn’t know how to act if Ae Sun cries or laughs, but he is a silent warrior who only loves Ae Sun from the very beginning and pours his all into loving her."
While Ae Sun is a free spirit who smiles confidently, Gwan Sik appears stiff and nervous, and is as unshakable as an 'old tree.' In the classic case of opposites attract, Gwan Sik's heart skips a beat with every breath Ae Sun takes, from the very start of their journey together. The teaser gives a glimpse into the refreshing chemistry between IU and Park Bo Gum, who are collaborating for the first time.
IU, who is also a famed K-pop soloist, is known for her roles in My Mister, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, and Hotel Del Luna. Park Bo Gum, meanwhile, has critically acclaimed K-dramas, Reply 1988, Encounter, and Record of Youth to his credit. When Life Gives You Tangerines will mark Bo Gum's first K-drama since his 2020 enlistment and subsequent discharge in 2022 from the military.
