Never in their wildest dreams did three schoolgirls from a village tucked away in a rural section of Karur district anticipate that their passion for music and dance would one day lead them down an uncharted path: attempting to go to a foreign country with little money and no passports.?
The girls, all 13 years old and pupils in Class 8 at a state-run school, decided to travel all the way to Seoul, South Korea's capital, to meet their idols.
"They took a firm decision to somehow meet the BTS stars and shortlisted the seaports of Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to take a ship to South?Korea,?and they eventually chose Visakhapatnam," the official told PTI.?
On January 4, the girls secretly left their homes and travelled to Chennai via rail from Erode, near Karur. Because the girls did not come home, their parents filed a complaint with Karur police, who notified authorities across the state and launched a search.
Despite having only ? 14,000 in savings, the teenagers were optimistic about their ability to survive. After much struggle, they were able to secure a room at a Chennai hotel on Thursday night and believed they could take a ship to Seoul without passports.?
On Friday, their desperate attempts to move forward pulled them from pillar to post, and they ran out of energy. They had no choice but to board a train from Chennai to return home.?
They were housed at a state-run institution in Vellore district, and their parents were summoned. Counselling sessions were held for both the youngsters and the parents.?
Parents were asked to make appropriate arrangements to care for their children so that they may receive help and guidance. Following counselling, the children were returned to their home district with their parents, where they boarded a train on January 6.
