Owning a house is a satisfying feeling. It's also one of those life accomplishments that tops nearly everyone¡¯s bucket list.?Whether you prefer a modernised abode or a sprawling suburban home, most of us dream to find a perfect fit for our family.?
However, one man's dream to own a dream home has turned into a disaster, as he faces paying NZ$ 315,000 (Rs 1.65 crore) after being sued for a simple yet 'cardinal' mistake about his home being built 'in the wrong place.'?
As per a local news website Stuff, a building consent error resulted in property being built right on the neighbour¡¯s boundary.
Deepak Lal had began building his three-bedroom dreamhouse in?Papakura in Auckland's north when construction stopped in August 2020 when his contractors alerted him to the issue.?
It has led to Lal now facing a hefty bill after?Development company?C94 Development, who own the neighbouring house, demanded the building either be moved back a metre or pay NZ$315,000 (Rs 1.65 crore) in damages.
As per a report in?New Zealand Herald,?Lal had employed Pinnacle Homes to build his house, who used?HQ Designs to draw up the structural plans which were approved by Auckland Council. He told it is the council who are at fault.??

¡°It¡¯s a nightmare for me. I wake up in the middle of the night and think, 'How am I going to solve this?'¡± Lal told the newspaper.
It was said that Lal's lawyer sent a letter to both Pinnacle Homes and HQ Designs in September saying a surveyor?confirmed the house was within building consent.
They say the error was made in the 'design stage', likely when information swapped hands between designers and planners.
As of now, the only option the family has is to move to a cheaper place for the time being. However, they are having issues with finding such a place as they are quite tight in the pocket as well.? ?
