When Deepak Kumar, the jewelry store owner in the Rithani neighborhood of Meerut, walked into the shop on Thursday morning, he was horrified to see traces of an attempted break-in.?
They brought a gas cutter, but it was not enough to get the job done.
"They broke into the shop on Wednesday night and tried to open the vault using a gas cutter but failed," Kumar said in an HT report.?
"The thieves probably did not want to commit the crime with the god watching them and turned the statue around," he said.?
According to Suchita Singh, the circle officer for the Brahmpuri area, police teams are now analyzing footage from CCTV cameras that have been put in place.
" The tunnel must have been dug for many days, and we are trying to identify the burglars by tracking the movement of people in the area seen in CCTV footage," she added.?
