What a trip back in time it must be running into a prehistoric shark in the deepest parts of the ocean. The thought itself is enough to make anyone quit the idea of swimming in the deep. But that was not the case for this British diver who came face-to-face with a rarely-seen prehistoric shark. Here's what went on.

For 23-year-old British diver Bee Smith, the moment she had been working on for two whole years finally arrived. Her plan all along was to find the elusive megamouth shark off the coast of Taiwan. Given megamouths only dwell in the pitch-black and mighty deep parts of the ocean, Bee's work was cut out for her.?
In the rarest of rare moments that took place on June 7, a brave Bee swam alongside a five-metre-long female megamouth in a valley of darkness.?
Megamouth sharks are deep ocean dwellers that only surface at night following plankton. As per reports, megamouths have only been sighted 279 times in the world. This deep-water creature has a large mouth, a rounded snout, a bulbous head, and a body that tapers off into a tail.

In the footage, the diver tentatively swims in close proximity to the giant shark as it makes its way around probably curious to see a human where it hardly does. The curious shark hangs around to see what the diver will do next. Bee then swims close to the female shark and gently touches it on the side as the shark turns its head and looks at her. The two seem to share a comfortable moment together before swimming off in different directions. It's hard to imagine, much less see, an interaction as curious as this given the bad rap sharks have earned over the years. This video also serves as a reminder that all creatures, no matter the size, understand compassion, are easily trusting and generally welcoming of such interactions provided they don't sense any threat.
