Gokulashtami is one of the major festivals in Maharashtra but a man high on alcohol got a little too festive and ruined it.?
It was 11 pm and people were waiting for govindas to break the earthen pot hanging from the seventh floor. The govindas were supposed to receive a prize money of Rs 55,000 after breaking the handi.?
However, a 22-year-old beggar named Bhola Waghmare, who begs?around Netaji Chowk locality slid up to the terrace of the building from which one end of the dahi handi was tied, scaled the rope with bare hands and cracked the pot. When people saw this, they were taken aback.?
According to TOI, it was more important to bring the drunk man down safely since he could've fallen and injured himself. The organisers of the event used quick thinking and loosened both ends of the rope slowly so the man could come down safely. While all this happened, the drunk man clutched the rope tightly.?
The govindas waiting downstairs were waiting to beat the drunk man but the cops saved him and shooed him away that time. However, the cops did hold onto the drunk beggar later and charged him with creating nuisance in a public place by consuming alcohol.?
When police arrested Waghmare in court on Saturday, lawyer Sumeet Gemnani argued on his behalf, arguing that the organisers of the dahi handi festival should give Waghmare Rs 55,000. He argued that the organisers had not specified how to breach the dahi handi, which made Waghmare eligible for the prize money.
Waghmare was released then.
