Reddit user dracoM_21 recently took to the popular site to share how his flatmates wanted to fire the house help because she 'couldn't speak Hindi.' Sadly, not being able to speak a certain local language or one used by most is one thing outside India. But in a country rich in diverse subcultures and local languages and dialects to be thrown out from a job because you can't speak Hindi remains surprising. Read on to know more.
Flatmates want to fire maid just because she can't speak Hindi.

OP, based in Hyderabad, started off by saying how his flatmates, interestingly, can't speak a word of Telugu and are willing to fire the house help who not only speaks Telugu but can also understand Hindi. While they moved into the flat just two months ago, the woman in question has been working in the area for a year and a half.
"So I live in a 3BHK with two other flatmates. Both of them can't speak Telugu, they moved in 2 months ago into the flat. We have a telugu speaking maid who cleans well, better than most of the maids in our area. She's been working in the flat from past 1.5 years," he explained.? ?
The house help can understand Hindi but OP's flatmates can't understand Telugu. While the communication barrier is understandable, to make it the sole reason for kicking someone out is not. OP also mentioned how the house help can still understand commands so giving her tasks and relaying information is not exactly difficult. He also added how he's there anyway to translate since he understands both languages.
The post went on, "Now these guys want to replace her just for the sole reason she can't speak Hindi and they can't understand Telugu. It's not like they can't communicate to her at all.?Maid understands Hindi and I will be there most of the times to translate.?
Understandably, when he told her she'd be losing her job because couldn't speak Hindi, she was left with tears in her eyes: "Our maid aunty literally had tears in her eyes when I told they want to remove her because of this. Did anyone face this situation? Like firing domestic workers because of language?"?
?OP then shared a screenshot to prove the conversation took place between his flatmates and him. But had to later delete it over reasons of security.?
Adding an edit to the post, OP explained how he stood up for the maid and tried to reason with his flatmates, but to no avail. Worse still, one of them was rude to her. "I tried so hard for my maid's right, one of the flatmates started treating her badly and the maid akka lost her patience left the place saying she can't work where there is no respect. She said she can get a new place to work in a week's time."
The incident made the internet furious and many took to the comments section to point out exactly what was wrong here.
1. One user explained how OP's flatmates were making a big deal out of a situation that was totally workable
2. There were those who wondered why this was even an issue
3. Some users egged him on to continue fighting for the house help
4. There were users who couldn't help but point out the irony...
