An adhesive company has created a new world record for an unimaginable stunt: just three grams of their super strong glue was able to lift and?hold a 17-tonne truck in the air for an hour.
The fact that it's a German company seems like one big reason why this was possible.
DELO, a small manufacturing company of industrial adhesives in Germany, set the record for the heaviest weight lifted with glue on July 12, 2019.
DELO
According to?Guinness World Records, just three grams of the glue was applied to an aluminium cylinder on the crane which then lifted a 17.5-ton truck one metre from the ground and up in the air, and held it there for almost a whole hour.
And believe it or not, the?entire weight was suspended for one hour on a bonded aluminum cylinder with a radius of just 3.5 cm.
The high-temperature-resistant DELO MONOPOX was manufactured specially for the event.
¡°The one-component, heat-curing epoxy resins in this product group are known for their high strength and are used in the automotive industry and mechanical engineering. Electric motors in electric cars, for example, would be inconceivable without these adhesives,¡± reads the website description about the glue.
DELO
DELO, based in Bavaria, went into the attempt knowing the record had been broken seven times in 12 years.
And this time they have set the bar higher and continuing this ongoing battle for the world record title for the world¡¯s strongest glue.
Back in 2013, DELO created a new record for lifting 16.3 tonne. Back then, they?did not use a structural adhesive but instead chose to melt the high-performance plastic PEEK and let it cool between the steel cylinders holding the plastic material.
The adhesives made by the company are used for microelectronics, electronics, RFID, photovoltaics to mechanical engineering.
According to reports,?the industrial company is the market leader in smart card bonding. In addition, every second mobile phone contains DELO adhesives.
According to the company¡¯s website 600 DELO employees and two local politicians showed up for the official record attempt and an Official Adjudicator judged the event.
"We made it," said Sabine Herold, managing partner of DELO. "The great result is an absolute team success, which also shows how we work every day. We don¡¯t shy away from challenges and we know our adhesives can live up to extremes."
The previous record holder, German Aerospace Centre were able to lift 16.09 tonnes (35,472lb 6.4oz) in September 2013.?
