If you were someone who found a bunch of gold coins without really trying to find them, what will you do next? Well, we know what you are thinking and some labourers in Madhya Pradesh thought the very same.?
Eight labourers allegedly stole 86 gold coins worth lakhs when they found them?during the demolition of an old house in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district.?
These 'ginnis' (gold coins) worth Rs 60 lakh were then distributed among these labourers equally. However, these gold coins could have been of archaeological importance, but the labourers distributed it without informing local police following which they were arrested, Additional Superintendent of Police Devendra Patidar said.
The Additional Superintendent said that the labourers found these gold coins?while removing the debris from an old house a few days back. Following a tip-off, the police came to know that the eight labourers distributed the coins among themselves.?
The police have arrested these labourers and seized 86 coins collectively weighing around one kilogram, the official said.
Even though the price of these gold coins is worth Rs 60 lakh at the moment, it can go up to crores considering the archaeological significance of these gold coins.
This is not the first time gold coins worth lakhs and crores have been found accidentally. Last year, 216 gold coins were seized by the Pimpri-Chinchwad police. These were found while there was digging work going on?in Chikhli.?
The police also revealed that the value of one coin is somewhere between Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000. The value of all coins is over Rs 1.3 crore. "The gold coins weigh 2,357 grams. We have also found a broken bronze container weighing 525 gram. The seized coins date from the period 1720 to 1750 AD. According to the Archaeological Department, the gold coins have the seal of ¡®Raja Muhammad Shah¡¯ with the name written in Urdu and Arabic," Commissioner of Police Krishna Prakash had said in a press conference.
The value of gold does not tend to dip down no matter what form it is in. So, stealing gold is quite common. However, the owners of Charagh Din, an established name in the fashion community, received stolen property worth over Rs 8 crore after 22 years of waiting back in January.
Sessions judge U J More on January 5 passed an order to hand over the property, comprising one gold coin containing Queen Victoria¡¯s picture, two gold bracelets, and two ingots weighing 1,300 gram and 200 milligrams (collectively worth Rs 13 lakh then and now over Rs 8 crore) to Raju Daswani, the son of Charagh Din founder Arjan Daswani.
