Whether you agree or not, women do have it tough in this world. The lack of equality outside the boardroom of a corporate or any other office, or the domestic set-up translates to women paying more for hygiene and self-care products. Although the pink tax is not unheard of now, a woman's recent claim on X gives a sharper perspective on exactly how bad it is. Read on to find out why this medical student's post went viral.

X user?@epicnephrin_e, a medical student pursuing MBBS going by her bio, recently took to the popular social media platform to line up all the ways women end up paying more for products of basic need. What makes it worse is how they end up paying roughly Rs 1 lakh more than men for the "same goods and services."?
"Being a woman is so expensive, she wrote, listing some products and services and the different amounts men and women pay for them.
"Period hygiene products cost around Rs. 150 a month (average); a good bra costs around Rs. 400-500, and you need a good supportive bra to workout/run/sports which costs anywhere around Rs. 800-1500."
She further explained that on an average women pay 7 per cent more for products also marketed to men.?"But it can be much much more," she stated.
"Specifically, women get charged on average: 50% more on income protection, 29% more on razor blades, 16% more for body wash, etc." she wrote in the eye-watering post.?
Unfortunately for women, the pesky pink tax is found to be higher in items of personal care, and clothing. She concluded by saying, "On average women pay around $1300 (Rs. 1 Lakh +) more than men for the same goods and services."

Posted late evening on August 3, the post has so far raked in 385.7k likes and 3,201 likes. The internet was divided on the subject and there were all sorts of opinions in the comments section. "Change your gender," challenged one ignorant X user. "And in most cases this cost is also borne by men only..." another tried to interject only to be shot down with @epicnephrin_e's comment: "No not really. There is an increasing percentage of women who pay their own bills. Let's be real, fathers (parents) pay for their 'children.' It's not about who's paying it, it's about how much the cost is."
Another infuriating comment read: "Cause a woman's money is her money only whereas a man's money is his family's money! But we are OK with it; it's the woman who has to bring in some changes in their mentality too! Ask for equality in this too, if can!"
@epicnephrin_e shut down the troll with, "No, this is not 1200 AD. Spill this misogyny somewhere else bro. A woman's/man's money is their own when unmarried which switches to family income when they get married."
