The famous story of the hare and the tortoise teaches a moral lesson about determination and steady effort. In the story, the hare challenges the tortoise to a race, confident that he will win easily.?
The tortoise, however, accepts the challenge and begins the race with slow and steady steps, while the hare quickly races ahead and then becomes overconfident and stops to rest. While the hare is resting, the tortoise continues to move steadily toward the finish line, eventually overtaking his opponent and winning the race.
Recently, the proverbial 'hare and tortoise' story literally came to life when a man slept off during a recruitment exam.. Here's what happened.?
In Madhya Pradesh, a candidate who had taken the lead in a 24-kilometre walk for a recruitment exam dozed off. When he awoke, he discovered that he had lost the race.?
In Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, the incident happened during a recruitment test for forest rangers. The race, which served as the first test for passing the physical examination, drew 61 participants from across the state. Pahad Singh, a young man from Dabra, Gwalior, was one of them and was in charge of the group.
Pahad Singh, however, decided to take a break to rest because he believed he was far ahead of the others, much like the overconfident hare who was winning the race against the tortoise.?
He lost the race when he awoke, however, and it had already ended. The recruitment drive for 38 forest ranger positions was organised for underrepresented communities, according to JP Mishra, the forest range officer of Khandwa.?
For the exam, 114 people applied in total. The main objective was to walk 24 kilometres in four hours. On March 28, at 6:30 am, the test was given to 61 candidates, 52 of whom were men and 9 of whom were women.
At 10:30 in the morning when the competition came to an end, 60 competitors had crossed the finish line, but Pahar Singh was absent. He was discovered dozing off by the track before the final checkpoint when a search team went out to find him.?
Pahar Singh was awakened and informed the authorities that he had sat down to rest for a while due to blisters on his feet and had no idea when he dozed off.
The incident serves as a reminder that persistence and diligence are necessary to achieve success and that overconfidence can be a barrier in accomplishing one's goals.?
