This mind-bending optical illusion involving a '3D eye' has hidden depths but not everyone can see it. It will surely leave you baffled.?
The image shows a blue pupil inside a red eye socket on a plain black background.?For some, the image of the eye doesn't look special, but for others, it features incredibly strong depth.?
Created by cognitive scientist?Tom Stafford, the image is a?powerful example of chromostereopsis, a fantastic optical illusion where depth is delivered just by using two colours at opposite ends of the light spectrum.?
In the image,?the distance between the red and blue appears vast, as though the pupil is literally receding into the screen.
Posting on?Mind Hacks, scientist Tom Stafford said: "There are big individual differences in perception of the effect. People also differ in which colour looks closer. For most people, it is red, with blue looking deeper or further away."??
He shared a reverse copy of the picture, showing a red pupil and blue eye socket.??
¡°I can enhance the effect by blinking rapidly, turning the brightness up on my screen, and viewing in a dark room.?The colours appear at different depths they even appear to glide separately when I move my head from side to side," he added.?
The effect is known as chromostereopsis.??
When colours such as red and blue are placed alongside each other, it's tricky to focus on both.?The wavelengths of the colours stimulate different parts of the eye.
Recently, another optical illusion involving a '3D cube', went viral on social media.
The video, taken from YouTube channel ¡®Sonhos com Dimens?o¡¯, was shared by?Science girl?on Twitter.?In it,?an individual can be seen drawing several distorted lines on grid paper before folding the sheet in the middle so the top half stands upright.??
At first, if you look from several angles,?it might not look like much. However, if viewed from the right position, the lines merge to give the impression that a square is jumping off the page.?
¡°Keep one eye closed and see the?magic,¡± the video reads.
Thankfully,?Science girl?explained what was taking place, writing that the shape is ¡°adjusted by your point of view¡±.
¡°This type of illusion where a distorted drawing appears normal when viewed from a particular point is called anamorphosis,¡± they said.?????
