It's time for another optical illusion!?
This time we bring you a mind-bending optical illusion where two sets of chess pieces have the same colour - and it has left the internet puzzled.?
The brain-freezing image was shared on Twitter by?science journalist Tom Chivers.
The image was originally created?by researchers Barton Anderson and Jonathan Winawer and was published in?a 2005 study in the journal?Nature.?
Sharing the image, Chivers wrote: "The top and bottom chess sets are the same colour."??
The illusion appears to show the two sets of pieces - white pieces in the top row and black pieces in the bottom row - in a smoky environment. It all seems pretty clear, right? But here is the hard truth:?This unbelievable illusion actually displays two sets of pieces with the exact same colour.
How is that even possible??
Well, as Chivers explains, every piece has "the same pattern of shades as its counterpart." Chivers said in a reply to a baffled user's comment, "If you screenshot a tiny spot from any one of them and its partner, they'll be the same shade."
The image is a?perceptual illusion?which means our brains end up tricking us.?Our mind can only see the picture as a whole - taking into account the background colours as well as the chess piece colours.
The illusion has left people shocked and confused.?
This is not the only illusion to have caught the interest of internet users recently. A recent illusion left netizens thinking that their?ceilings were moving. The viral illusion left many perplexed about their surroundings.??
Evan, who goes by @thecardguy on TikTok, is known for sharing magic tricks and illusion clips.? ?
Sharing the?illusion, Evan claimed that looking at the illusion for a few seconds will make you feel that everything around you is moving.?Already feeling dizzy??
¡°I can make your ceiling look like it¡¯s moving. I know it sounds weird but stare at the dot in the middle of your screen and don¡¯t take your eyes off it whatever you do,¡± he said.
The green dot was surrounded by black and white horizontal lines?that looked as if they were growing and shrinking.? ??
He said you shouldn¡¯t be scared if the ceiling even looks like it¡¯s contracting, as that¡¯s to be expected.
¡°It¡¯s gonna be crazy.?If it works let me know because that is insane," he said.?
