Exotic animals, such as lions and tigers, should be kept in their natural habitats rather than as pets.?However, in many countries, keeping wild animals at home is becoming increasingly popular and is frequently viewed as a status symbol.?
Recently, a video of a visitor driving about Pattaya City in a luxury convertible with a lion cub in the back seat went viral. According to the South China Morning Post, the footage led officials to initiate an investigation.
The video was first shared on Facebook by an account called 'Madamannudon' and shows a man driving a Bentley with a lion cub wearing a collar in the rear seat.
According to the video, the footage was shot in December 2023 on Soi Phratamnak 5 in Chonburi province's Bang Lamung district. The video eventually became viral on other social media platforms. According to local accounts, the?lion cub appeared to be around four to five months old.
According to the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation, the pet owner, Sawangjit Kosoongnern, was legally permitted to keep the lion in Ratchaburi province.?
However, she was not permitted to transport the pet to a different place without prior consent. "Therefore, Sawangjit did violate laws concerning the taking of a wild animal out in public and moving its location without prior permission," said Atthaphon Charoenchansa, chief of the department.?
As a result, she might face up to six months in prison and a maximum punishment of 50,000 baht (US$1,400).
Police later revealed that the driver was Sawangjit's acquaintance from India, and they are still looking for him. Check the video below.
