Classes were cancelled for Wednesday and Thursday in many cities, including Chicago - home of the nation's third-largest school system.
It's so cold that if you toss boiling hot water into the air, it may immediately freeze. Some areas experienced lows that felt like ¨C50 degrees.
And people are showing just how bad things really are:?

¡°The term ¡®polar vortex¡¯ has become more commonly used in the past couple of years but the phenomenon has been around forever,¡± National Weather Service meteorologist Mark Chenard told Reuters in an interview.
A polar vortex is an upper-level low-pressure area that lies near the Earth¡¯s poles. It is a large pocket of biting air, typically the coldest air in the Northern Hemisphere, which sits over the polar region during the winter season.?
According to this report,? on occasion throughout winter the vortex will expand and send cold air southward with the jet stream.
This has nothing to do with global warming and President Trump was wrong to ask for 'Global Waming' to make a come back.?
Scientists say higher temperatures in the Arctic have led to historically low levels of ice there. That, in turn, has led to changes in the jet stream, causing the polar vortex to buckle.
