A woman's attire on the Delhi Metro has gone viral, causing controversy and sparking debates on social media. On the train, the woman was spotted wearing a DIY bralette and mini-skirt, raising questions about the appropriate dress code and public behaviour in India.?
While some have praised her for her bold fashion statement and self-expression, others have criticized her for being inappropriate and disrespectful.?
The incident has also raised questions about gender inequality and double standards in society. The issue has gained widespread attention on social media, with people sharing their opinions.
Barkha Trehan has shared the video with the caption, "Another video of Delhi Metro. If this is an example of WOMEN EMPOWERMENT, then alas our young generation GIRLS can be victim of such EMPOWERMENT And this is exactly what SHAMELESS FEMINISTS want. I would call it CULTURAL GEN*CIDE."
In the video, the woman passenger with a rucksack is seen seated next to other women inside a coach in the undated video clip. When it is obvious that she is wearing a two-piece outfit, she stands up and walks.?In response to a question about the viral video, the Delhi Metro said in a statement on Monday, "'After video of a woman travelling in a #DelhiMetro coach has gone viral on social media, #DMRC has appealed to passengers to maintain decorum while travelling in public transport saying, 'While issues such as the choice of clothing while travelling is a personal issue, passengers are expected to self-regulate their conduct in a responsible manner'."
The video has over 720K views, 1,106 retweets, 3,362 likes, 159 quotes, and 707 bookmarks.
One user asked, "What makes her think she looks good in this (lack of) dress?"
Another user commented, "Delhi Metro ma itni garmi hoti ha kya I had never experienced it."?
Another person stated 'Is it acceptable to wear in the tube? Even in broad daylight? Most likely not the best option. But the truth is that it is her choice,' making comments about her attire, whatever it is, is sexist.
Another person stated 'In India, there are two extremes, both promoted by left liberals. One extreme desire a Burqa for religious freedom, while the other desires nothing on their body for feminism.'
One of the users said feminists' most general comment would be, "Don't teach girls what to wear" Imagine what the girls' reactions would be if a male wearing nothing but shorts the size of female hot pants in public - he might even face a court case for."
Yet another said that the user is sure her bag was full of the clothes she wore when she left the house.
One said what if a man entered the Delhi Metro wearing only his pants? Would he be permitted? Alternatively, the media would air a segment about perverts on metros.
