A wildlife encounter of any kind can stop you dead in your tracks and if involves pets, there's a lot you can lose. For instance, this recently surfaced CCTV footage of an intense face-off between two young lions and two dogs near Gir National Forest, Gujarat, will send shivers down your back. What makes the clip so uncomfortable to watch is that the two dogs and the two lions are separated by a mere metal gate and nothing more.?

The incident reportedly took place in Savarkundla in Amreli district in Gujarat, which is roughly at a distance of 76 km from Gir forest. Going by the time stamp on the clip--captured from atop one corner of the gate--it was some minutes past 11 on the night of August 8 when a young lion approached a metal gate in front of someone's house. While there's no sound on the clip, one can assume that by now, the two dogs on the other side of the gate, alerted by the presence of the predator in the area start barking. The lion approaches the barking dogs and continually paws at the thin metal gate, trying to get to the dogs inside the compound.?
Seconds later, another lion is seen flanking the first one and this time, attempts to get the job done himself. Here comes the heart-stopping moment when after the lion paws at the gate too, the gate almost moves forward and it appears it can open any moment. Luckily, it didn't.?
So far, we're 32 seconds into the clip, and the first lion that was hiding in the bushes comes charging out while the other lion moves out of his way. This time the gate is open just enough for either the dogs to slip out or the lions to cross the threshold. But neither party does anything of the sort. The two lions have had enough of the fight across the gate and seemingly frustrated, walk off. One dog manages to then slip out of the gate but lingers in front of this by which time a man, most likely the caretaker, walks into view shining light from a torch. He brings the dogs in locks the gate and does a quick perimeter check. He steps outside a side gate to assess the situation and keeps an eye for a bit in the direction the lions ran off. The clip cuts off soon after.

This isn't the first such instance from Gir National Park. The following video shows a stray dog fighting with a lioness alone. It seems the lioness wanted to make a meal out of the stray dog but it stood its ground and didn't make it easy for her. This video is just another reminder that size does not matter, especially when you know how to hold your own.
