Holi is over; now what? As we gear up to get back to our normal routine, a recent news story about an employer who apparently denied leave to employees for Holi has left Reddit users in shock.?

According to the Reddit post by a user under the name @SahilSakure23, along with denying the leaves, the employer also informed them that they must remain colour-free if they wanted to enter office premises. In a screenshot shared by the user, the message by the manager has sparked a wide conversation on the toxic Indian workplaces.?

Employee vents his frustration over manager's Holi message?

To express the frustration, an unnamed employee took to the popular 'Indian Workplace' subreddit to share the manager's message.?

In the post, the user mentioned that his employer refused to grant a leave for Holi, despite the festival being widely celebrated, the company did not approve time off for employees. "Not only does my employer have the audacity to not grant any leaves for Holi, but also to mark them unapproved/unpaid for those who take them forcefully with sandwich salary deduction and consequences of warning behaviour issue letters and much more. and to term every festival as a business-critical day," the caption of the post read.?

The employee went on to vent out his frustration, saying if employees take leave without approval on Holi, then it would be marked as unapproved and unpaid leave. Along with this, the company also applies a 'sandwich salary' deduction policy, which means that if employees take leave before or after a weekend or public holiday, extra days may also be deducted from their respective salaries.?

Manager's message: 'Take extra care of yourself'

The manager's message included three points in total for the employees. Apart from the above-mentioned pointers, the employees may also face financial penalties for those who take unapproved leaves, and they may also face warnings or other disciplinary actions like warning letters, the employee revealed in his Reddit post.

Here are the three conditions by the manager:

• 'We will not bring colours on the floor tomorrow!'
• Employees will not be allowed to enter the premises if they are coloured themselves, and it will be marked as unapproved since it's a Business Critical Day, the message continued.?
• And thirdly, the manager asked them to take extra care of themselves so that they do not fall ill or have any sort of emergencies tomorrow.?
